Question 511819: Hi,
I have been trying to help my daughter solve this problem.
10+2x(9-4^2)+12
10+2(9-8)+12
10+2=12-1=11+12=22
The book gives the answer as 8, so I would like to know what I am doing wrong.
Thank you

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Okay...You miscalculated 4^2 = 16 NOT 8 (4^2 = 4*4 = 16). So:
10 + 2(9 - 4^2) + 12
10 + 2(9 - 16) + 12
10 + 2(-7) + 12
10 - 14 + 12
-4 + 12
= 8
