The circumference c of a circle is defined as c+=d%2API, where d is the diameter. Dividing both sides of the equation by d (i.e., c%2Fd=d%2API%2Fd) produces c%2Fd=PI. This says that PI is the quotient of the circumference c and the diameter d.
