Question 51096: the home work looks like this but i dont know how to do it at all the teacher explained it but i still dont get it. the questions are like... pr=xp i dont know how to do them..and some of them have numbers..how do you do both times
Answer by tutorcecilia(2152) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! pr=xp [These are multiplication problems]
pr=xp [To solve for any of the variables, p, x, or r divide]
For example to solve for r, divide both sides by p
pr=xp
pr/p=xp/p
r=x [The p's cancel out]
.
Another example, to solve for x, in this case, also divide both sides by p:
pr=xp
pr/p=xp/p [cancel out]
r=x
.
Treat the variables the same as you would treat numbers.
To check your answers, plug the value of x (or r) back into the original equation.
