Question 509945: Find an equation in slope-intercept form passing through the points (2,5) and (7,-3)
Answer by Maths68(1474) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Points (2,5) and (7,-3)
Use point-slope Equation
m=(y2-y1)/(x2-x1)
m=(-3-5)/(7-2)
m=-8/5
Equation of the line Slope-intercept form
y=mx+b
Put the value of any one point and slope we have found
m=-8/5, (2,5)
5=-8/5(2)+b
5=-16/5+b
5+16/5=b
(25+16)/5=b
41/5=b
Now
m=-8/5, (7,-3)
-3=-8/5(7)+b
-3=-56/5+b
56/5-3=b
(56-15)/5=b
41/5=b
So b=41/5
Now again put the value of b and m in Equation of the Slope-intercept Form
y=mx+b
y=(-8/5)x+41/5 or y=(-8x+41)/5
Above equation is our required Equation of the Straight line Slope-inercept form
