Question 507628: I have been trying to calculate this problem for a few days and keep getting a negative answer.
"A rectangular garden has a perimeter of 24 yards. Fencing across the length costs $3 per yard and along the width $2 per yard. The total cost of the fencing is $62. Find the length and width of the rectangle"
So I set up the equation as follows:
X= length
Y= Width
2x+2y=24
3x+2y=62
The way I set it up may be my problem.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
your cost equation only uses one length and one width, not the whole perimeter

3(2x) + 2(2y) = 62 ___ 6x + 4y = 62

2x+2y=24 ___ 4x + 4y = 48

subtracting equations ___ 2x = 14
