Question 507582: Find the point that is one-fourth of the way from (2,4) to (10,8).
Answer by jim_thompson5910(35256) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! First, find the midpoint between (2, 4) and (10, 8)
Midpoint: ( (x1+x2)/2, (y1+y2)/2 )
Midpoint: ( (2+10)/2, (4+8)/2 )
Midpoint: ( 12/2, 12/2 )
Midpoint: ( 6, 6 )
So the midpoint between (2, 4) and (10, 8) is ( 6, 6 )
-------------------------------------------------------------
Now find the midpoint between (2, 4) and ( 6, 6 )
Midpoint: ( (x1+x2)/2, (y1+y2)/2 )
Midpoint: ( (2+6)/2, (4+6)/2 )
Midpoint: ( 8/2, 10/2 )
Midpoint: ( 4, 5 )
So the midpoint between (2, 4) and (6, 6) is (4, 5)
=======================================================
Answer:
So the the point that is one-fourth of the way from (2,4) to (10,8) is (4, 5)
