-(3)^2 - 3(3)^3 - (3)^4 ... plug in x = 3

-9 - 3(27) - 81

-9 - 81 - 81

-90 - 81

-171


So -x^2 - 3x^3 - x^4 = -171 when x = 3
-------------------------------------------------------
-x^2 - 3x^3 - x^4

-(-3)^2 - 3(-3)^3 - (-3)^4 ... plug in x = -3

-9 - 3(-27) - 81

-9 + 81 - 81

72 - 81

-9


So -x^2 - 3x^3 - x^4 = -9 when x = -3
