Question 50719This question is from textbook Applied College Algebra
: A cylindrical soft drink can is to be constructed such that it will have a volume of 355 milliliters.
a. Write an equation for the height h of the can in terms of its radius r.
b Write an equation for the surface area Aof the can in terms of its radius r.
c. An engineer has determined that a radius of 3.84 centimeters minimizes the surface area of the can (and thus minimizes the cost of the can), but the managers of the company have decided to construct the can using a radius of 3.1 centimeters. Explain some of these reasons the managers might give to justify their decision.

You can put this solution on YOUR website! A cylindrical soft drink can is to be constructed such that it will have a volume of 355 milliliters.
Explain some of these reasons the managers might give to justify their decision.
let the can radius =r cm...and ht=h cm.
its volume=3.14*r^2*h=355
a) h=355/(3.14*r*r)
b) surface area of can=6.28*r*h+3.14*r*r
c) with r=3.1,we get
h=355/(3.14*3.1*3.1)=11.7645
with r=3.84,we get h=7.67...that is it will be as stout (dia=2*3.84=7.68)as its heght,making it oquarf to look and hold in the hand.making it slimmer gives better look and hold.
