I am thinking .10x+ .05(3x)+ x+80= $55.00???
Not sure of the equation or of how to solve it?? Answer by stanbon(75887) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! A collection of nickels, dimes, and quarters equals $55.00. You have 80 more quarters than dimes and three times as many nickels as dimes. How many of each do you have?
----
Value Equation: 5n + 10d + 25q = 5500
Quantity Eq: q = d + 80
Quantity Eq: n = 3d
---
Substitute for "q" and for "n" and solve for "d"
----
5(3d) + 10d + 25(d+80) = 5500
15d + 10d + 25d + 2000 = 5500
50d = 3500
---
d = 70 (# of dimes)
---
q = d+80 = 150 (# of quarters)
---
n = 3d = 210 (# of nickels)
