Question 5050: I can figure out how to do the graphs. I just don't know how to figure out the plotting points. Comlete the following table for the equation 2x + y = 6. 1)x=-2, y=? 2)x=?, y=-3 3)x=1/2, y=? 4)x=?, y=9. I have the answers in my book, I can't figure how they solved the table. Can you please show me how they worked these problems in order to get the answers? Thank-you. BRT

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
all you do is put the point that is given into the equation.
For example:
1. x=(-2) and find y
2x + y = 6
2(-2) + y = 6
-4 + y = 6
-4 + 4 + y = 6 + 4
y = 10
2. find x when y=(-3)
2x + y = 6
2x + (-3) = 6
2x + (-3) + 3 = 6 + 3
2x = 9
2x/2 = 9/2
x=1 1/8
3. solve for y when x=1/2
2x + y = 6
2(1/2) + y = 6
1 + y = 6
1 - 1 + y = 6 - 1
y = 5
4. y = 9
2x + y = 6
2x + 9 = 6
2x + 9 - 9 = 6 - 9
2x = -3
2x/2 = -3/2
x = -1 1/2
Hope this helps and matches the answers in your book.
