You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let x=Ian's age
And let y=his brother's age
x+y=45----------------------eq1
and
x+5=(5/6)(y+5) multiply each term by 6
6x+30=5(y+5) or
6x+30=5y+25 subtract 5y and also 30 from each side
6x-5y=-5----------------eq2
multiply eq1 by 5 and add it to eq2 and we get:
11x=220
x=20-------------Ian's age
from eq1, 20+y=45
y=25 -----------brother's age
CK
20+25=45
45=45
and
20+5=(5/6)(25+5)
25=25
Hope this helps-----ptaylor
