You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let
Present age of George = g
Present age of John =j
Present age of James = m
Present age of Sam = s
George is 4 years older than John
j=g-4 …………(1)
John is 4 years older than James
j=m+4………..(2)
James is 4 years older Sam
m=s+4………..(3)
Sam is 1/2 the age of George
s=g * 1/2
s=g/2 ………….(4)
Put the value of s in (3), we have
m=s+4………..(3)
m=g/2+4
Multiply by 2 both sides of above equation
2m=g+8………(5)
Put the value of j from (1) to (2)
j=g-4 …………(1)
j=m+4………..(2)
g-4=m+4
g-4-4=m
g-8=m
m=g-8………………(6)
Put the value of m from (6) to (5)
2m=g+8………(5)
2(g-8)=g+8
2g-16=g+8
2g=g+8+16
2g=g+24
2g-g=24
g=24
Put the value of g in (6)
m=g-8………………(6)
m=24-8
m=16
Put the value of g in (1)
j=g-4 …………(1)
j=24-4
j=20
Put the value of g in (4)
s=g/2 ………….(4)
s=24/2
s=12

Present age of George = 24
Present age of John =20
Present age of James = 16
Present age of Sam = 12
