You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let
Present age of mother = m
Present age of daughter = d
Sum of the ages
m+d=52........(1)
In five years means we have add 5 in their present ages
m+5=d+5
Then
three times the daughters age will be equal to the mother's age
m+5=3(d+5)
m+5=3d+15
m=3d+15-5
m=3d+10 ...........(2)
Put the value of m from (2) to (1)
m+d=52........(1)
(3d+10)+d=52
3d+10+d=52
4d+10=52
4d=52-10
4d=42
Divide by 4 both sides of the equation
4d/4=42/4
d=10.5
Put the value of d in (1)
m+d=52........(1)
m+10.5=52
m=52-10.5
m=41.5
Present age of mother = 41 and half years
Present age of daughter = 10 and half years
