Question 498015: a farmer has a rectangular garden plot surrounded by 200 ft of fence. Find the length and width of the garden if its area is 2400 ft squared Answer by cleomenius(959) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! l*w = 2400
Since we need 2 times the length and height to surround the area, we will use half of 200 for calculating the area.
l= 100 - width
w(100 -w) = 100w - w^2 = 2400
100w - w^2 - 2400 = 0
w^2 - 100w + 2400 = 0
(x - 60) (x - 40)
60 feet
40 feet
2(60) + 2(40) = 200
60 feet * 40 feet = 2400 feet.
