Question 496998: I am really bad at story problems, and I would love your help.
Here is the question...
Two cars leave Flint at the same time, traveling in opposite directions. The car that is traveling north is moving 9 miles per hour faster than the car traveling south. If the two cars are 405 miles apart after 3 hours, find the speed of each car.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
It would be the same if one car was not moving at all
and the other were traveling at their combined speed.
Let the two speeds be s and s%2B9
%282s+%2B+9%29%2A3+=+405+
%282s+%2B+9%29=+405+%2F3+
2s+%2B+9=+135+
2s+=+135-9
2s+=+126
s+=+126%2F2
s+=+63mph

s%2B9+=+72mph
First car travels 189+miles.
Second car travels 216+miles.
Total 405miles.
