Question 496771: A triangle has a vertical height 2cm longer than its base length. Its area is 20cm^2. What are the dimensions of the triangle? Answer by cleomenius(959) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! A = 1/2 b*h
20 =1/2 b* h
40 = b*h
40 = (x + 2) * x
40 = x^2 + 2x
x^2 + 2x - 40 = 0
Next, use the quadratic formula.
7.4 is the height.
5.4 is the base.
7.4 * 5.4 = 39.96 approx 40; 40 / 2 = 20.
This does check.
