SOLUTION: Solve using the substitution method
1/3 x - 1/5 y = 7
1/6 x + 2/5 y = -4
Not sure how to work substitution method using fractions.

Question 496042: Solve using the substitution method
1/3 x - 1/5 y = 7
1/6 x + 2/5 y = -4
Not sure how to work substitution method using fractions.
Need to find answer for both variables seperately. Answer by Alan3354(69443) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Solve using the substitution method
1/3 x - 1/5 y = 7
1/6 x + 2/5 y = -4
-----------------
Then eliminate the fractions and go from there.
1/3 x - 1/5 y = 7
times 15 --> 5x - 3y = 105
-----------------
1/6 x + 2/5 y = -4
times 30 --> 5x + 12y = -120
------------
5x - 3y = 105 --> 5x = 3y + 105
5x + 12y = -120
-------------
Sub for 5x in the 2nd eqn
(3y+105) + 12y = -120
15y = -225
y = -15
-----------
Sub for y in any eqn and find x
