: Hi , I need some help graphing the function. I came up with the figures, just do not know how to put it on the graph
f(x)=-2x-5
y = mx + b
f(x) = -2x - 5
Slope, m = -2
Intercept, b = -5

Starting on the y axis, where y = -5, move one unit to the left and two units up. Connect these two points with a straight line.

Another way i came up with:
Find f(0): y = -5
Find x when y = 0
0 = -2x - 5
x = -5/2
Connect these two points on the axes with a straight line.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
You are correct the slope is (-2/1), but it is also (2/-1) and the y-intercept is (0. -5).
.
Starting from (0, -5), for a slope of (-2/1), move down two and to the left one space. Plot this point (1, -7). From this point move down two and to the left one space. Plot this point (2, -9). Continue plotting points until you have two or three points plotted.
.
Starting again from (0, -5) , but use the slope of (2/-1), move up two and to the right one space. Plot point (-1, -3). From this point repeat the process. You should land on point (-2, -1). Continue until you have two or thiree points plotted.
.
Connect the dots. This should give you a good representation of the graph of the line: y = -2x - 5
