Question 492936: Cindy's alarm clock loses 0.4 minutes in 5 hours. At this rate, how much will it lose in 14 hours

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let x=rate per hour that Cindy's clock loses time, so:
5*x=4/10
x=4/50=2/25 minute per hour
In 14 hours, then, Cindy's clock will lose (2/25)*14=28/25= 1.12 min
We could also solve this problem by setting up a ratio
5 is to 0.4 as 14 is to ?
Hope this helps---ptaylor
