Question 490240: Determine the nature of the solutions of the equation
y^2=3/4y+3/2
Fractions mess me up when I am figuring out equations. Answer by John10(297) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! The least common denominator is 4. Thus we need to multiply both sides by 4
4y^2 = 3y + 6
4y^2 - 3y - 6 = 0
Discriminant: D = b^2 - 4ac = (-3)^2 - 4(4)(-6) = 9 + 96 = 105
Since the discriminant is POSITIVE, the equation has TWO REAL SOLUTIONS.
