You can put this solution on YOUR website!
let x = number of adult tickets
8x=the total amount of money the adult tickets earned
Let x-200= number of children tickets sold
4(x-200) = amount of money the children's tickets earned ($4 is half of $8)
the total number of tickets sold:

The total earned:
8x+4(x-200)=$3400
clear the parentheses:
8x+4x-800=3400
Combine like terms:
12x-800=3400
add 800 to both sides:
12x=4200
divide both sides by 12
x=350
350 adult tickets were sold, so 150 childrens tickets were sold (200 more adult than children, 350-200=150)
Check your solution by multiplication:
350 adult tickets * 8 = 2800
150 child tickets *4 = 600
2800+600=3400, so this is correct.
