Question 489792: just read "decimals into fractions.......it was suggested that if the fraction is divisible by two than you reduce the fraction ... got it
Question? what if the fraction is Not divisible by two ex. 85/100, do you use any other number to reduce the fraction or is that the final answer ?
thanks joann

You can put this solution on YOUR website! Use other numbers too. They mention 2 just because it is so easy to detect in big numbers. 5 is about as easy. 3 and 9 aren't too bad either, but they aren't going to show up in this particlar process because you are dividing by powers of (2*5).
So, 85/100 should not be your final answer (unless somebody is forcing an abitrary rule on you). Go ahead and divide both by 5.
If this is just an intermediate result, see if there is an 85 around in the denominator, otherwise you don't want to multiply by 85, cancel the 5 factors out. Maybe there is a 17 somewhere.
