Question 489172: Not a right triangle angle ,if you are given 2 sides of triangle. how can you find the third side ?
Here the question :
In baseball filed, dead center field is the farthest point in the outfield on the straight line through home plate and second base. The distace between con secutive base is 90 ft .In Wrigley Field in Chicago, dead center field is 400 feet from home plate .How far is dead center field first base?

You can put this solution on YOUR website! You are right, the triangle Home-first-Center has no right angle.
So we have to make one!
"drop perpendicular" from 1st base to the home-center line, call this point P (it's somewhat close to pitchers mound).
Use this line (instead of home-first) as the small side of right triangle.
By Pythag of home-1st-2nd, length home-2nd = sqrt(2*90^2)ft = 90 sqrt(2) ft.
Length home-P is half that, 45 sqrt(2).
Home-P-1st 45 90 45 isosceles, so "short side" P-1st is also 45 sqrt(2)
Length P-center = 400-45sqrt(2), the "longer side" of right triangle.
So with x = desired hypotenuse 1st-center,
Pythag gives x^2 = 2*(45^2) + (400-45sqrt(2))^2.
Crank it out.
