You can put this solution on YOUR website!
If i ate 1/3 of corn muffins, gave 1/4 to a friend and I have 9 left, how many did I make?
:
Let x = no. of muffins to start with
If you ate 1/3 of them, that leaves 2%2F3x, you gave away 1%2F4 of this amt
:
2%2F3x - (1%2F4 * 2%2F3)x = 9
2%2F3x - 2%2F12x = 9
:
Get rid of those annoying denominators, multiply by 12
12*2%2F3x - 12*2%2F12x = 12(9)
;
cancel out the denominators and you have
4(2x) - 2x = 108
8x - 2x = 108
6x = 108
x = 108%2F6
x = 18 muffins so you are right!!
