Question 485447: Three ball bearings are drawn at random from a lot of 500 ball bearings , 10 of which are defective. Find the probability that the ball bearings drawn will be nondefective in drawing (a) with replacement, (b) without replacement. Answer by Edwin McCravy(20056) (Show Source):
Probability that all will be nondefective is
P(1st is nondefective)×P(2nd is nondefective)×P(3rd is nondefective)
(a) with replacement. The probabilities do not change:
P(1st is nondefective)×P(2nd is nondefective)×P(3rd is nondefective) =
-----
(b) without replacement. The probabilities do change:
P(1st is nondefective)×P(2nd is nondefective)×P(3rd is nondefective) =
So there is very little difference between the probabilies.
