You can put this solution on YOUR website!
One person can shovel the snow from a sidewalk in 2 hours and another person canshovel the same sidewalk in 1.5 hours. How long will it take for them to shovel the snow from the sidewalk if they work together?
-----------------------------
1st Person DATA:
time = 2 hrs/job ; rate = 1/2 job/hr
---
2nd Person DATA:
time = 3/2 hrs/job ; rate = 2/3 job/hr
---
Together DATA:
time = x hrs/job ; rate = 1/x job/hr
------------------------------------------------
Equation:
rate + rate = together rate
1/2 + 2/3 = 1/x
Multiply thru by 6x to get:
3x + 4x = 6
7x = 6
x = 7/6 hr = 1 hr 10 minutes
That is the time for the 2 persons to do the
job working together.
