b=s+6
b-3=2(s-3)
s+6-3=2s-6

Barry is 6 years older than his sister sue. Three years ago he was twice as old as sue was then. How old is Barry now?

Let Barry’s age now be B
Then Sue’s age now is B – 6
Three (3) years ago, Barry was (B – 3) years-old
Three (3) years ago, Sue was (B – 6 – 3), or (B – 9) years old

Since 3 years ago, Barry was twice Sue’s age then, then we’ll have: B – 3 = 2(B – 9)

B – 3 = 2B – 18
- B = - 15
B, or Barry is now: %28-15%29%2F-1, or highlight_green%2815_years-old%29

Barry is now 15 years-old, so 3 years ago he was 15 – 3, or 12 years-old
Sue is now 9 (15 – 6) years-old, so 3 years ago she was 9 – 3, or 6 years-old

Three (3) years ago, Barry (12 years-old then) was twice Sue’s age (6 years-old then).
