In one sense, I would say that there is no answer to your question. That is because I never subtract and I never divide. Instead of subtracting, I add the opposite. Instead of dividing, I multiply by the reciprocal.
On the other hand, if you and your instructor are not as much of a purist as I am, then perhaps the following fits the bill:
The only thing is that this example is misleading because the vinculum is itself a grouping symbol much like parentheses, brackets, or braces.
