Question 481922: Jack brought his wife and 4 kids to a local town picnic.
The tickets cost 14 dollars.
Bill brought his wife and 6 kids and his tickets cost 23 dollars.
How much do the adult tickets cost? How much do the kid tickets cost?
I would have guessed that kids tickets would have been $4.50 a piece since there was a 9 dollar difference between the two families. But 4.50 was not one of the answers.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!

Hi, misclick
Let x and y represent the cost of the adult and student tickets resepctively:
2x + 4y = 14 |Jack
2x + 6y = 23 |Bill
-2x - 4y = -14
2x + 6y = 23
2y = 9
y = 4.50, cost of student ticket, as You said, does not make sense.
Check the money spent by each, possibly a typo there.
Sure sign of that would be the values given.
