y + mothers age = * y + daughter's age
the equation
y + 31 = (y + 7)
Get rid of the denominator, multiply both sides by 2
2(y+31) = 3(y+7)

2y + 62 = 3y + 21

62 - 21 = 3y - 2y

y = 41 yrs for this to be true
