Let John is x years old now, then Sarah is 2x years old now
6 years ago John was %28x-6%29 years old, Sarah was %282x-6%29 years old, and Sarah was 4 times as old as john, so 4%28x-6%29=2x-6
4x-24=2x-6
4x-2x=-6%2B24
2x=18
x=9 years is John now
