You can put this solution on YOUR website!
First, determine slope of:
3x= 5y+9
3x-9 = 5y
(3/5)x - 9/5 = y
slope is 3/5
.
If two lines are parallel, they have the same slope.
So, now we know our new line:
m = 3/5
and crosses
(-8,8)
.
Plug into "point-slope" form:
y - y1 = m(x - x1)
y - 8 = (3/5)(x - (-8))
y - 8 = (3/5)(x + 8)
y - 8 = (3/5)x + 24/5
y = (3/5)x + 24/5 + 8
y = (3/5)x + 24/5 + 40/5
y = (3/5)x + 64/5 (this is what they're looking for)
