You can put this solution on YOUR website! Idea is to isolate the unknown (x) to one side of the equation:
8x+10-(2x+5)= -55
begin by subtraction 10 from both sides:
8x+10-(2x+5)-10= -55-10
8x-(2x+5)= -65
distribute the negative sign to each term inside the parenthesis:
8x-2x-5= -65
combine x's:
6x-5= -65
add 5 to both sides:
6x-5+5= -65+5
6x= -60
finally divide both sides by 6:
x= -10
