You can put this solution on YOUR website! Soybean meal is 16% protein; cornmeal is 8% protein. How many pounds of each should be mixed together in order to get 320-lb mixture that is 13% protein ?
------
Equation:
protein + protein = protein
0.16s + 0.08(320-s) = 0.13*320
---
Multiply thru by 100 to get:
16s + 8*320 - 8s = 13*320
8s = 5*320
s = 5*40
Amount of soybean meal needed is 200 lb
Amount of cornmeal needed is 120 lb

Let = pounds of cornmeal needed
In words:
(total pounds of protein in final mixture) / (total pounds in final mixture) = 13%
given: = pounds of protein in soybean meal = pounds of protein in cornmeal
