(b) how many days would it take 12 men to dig 30 holes?
Please help me with ONLY Part B. Part A I know how to do. If Part B needs the answer from Part A, the answer is 21 men. Found 2 solutions by Alan3354, jorel1380:Answer by Alan3354(69443) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! If 12 men can dig 35 holes in 14 days,
(a) how many men are needed to dig 35 holes in 8 days,
35 holes takes 168 man-days
168 man-days/8 days = 21 men
-----------------------------
(b) how many days would it take 12 men to dig 30 holes?
35 holes takes 168 man-days
--? 168/35 man-days per hole
= 4.8 man-days per hole
4.8*30 = 144 man-days
144 man-days/12 men = 12 days
------------------------------
Keeping the units with the calculations makes it more obvious.
You can put this solution on YOUR website! 35/12=2.9167
2.9167/14=.20833
Therefore, one man, in one day, can dig .20833 of a hole.
8x.20833=1.67
35/8=4.375 holes per day
4.375/.20833=21 men needed to dig 35 holes in 8 days.
------------------
30 holes/12 men=2.5 holes per man
2.5/.20833=12 days for 12 men to dig 30 holes.
That's a hole lot of digging..
