You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Hello,
Let's rewrite this first as:
-2x/x-1 + x+3/(x-1)(x+1) = 1
Now multiply this by (x-1)(x+1)to get:
-2x(x+1)+x+3=(x-1)(x+1)
Expand this out to:
-2x^2-2x+x+3=x^2-1
Combine like terms to get:
3x^2+x-4=0
Factor
(3x+4)(x-1)=0
Solve for x
x=1 and x=-4/3
x=1 is extraneous so the only valid answer is -4/3
Make sense?
