Question 474736: Nationally, about 11% of the total US wheat crop is destroyed each year by hail. At 37 randomly selected farms in Weld County Co, 12.5% of the crop was destroyed. a) At the alpha =.05 level, does this indicate that this damage should be considered unusual? b.) How about at the alpha=0.01 level? Sample standard deviation =5%.
Please help me.

You can put this solution on YOUR website! Nationally, about 11% of the total US wheat crop is destroyed each year by hail. At 37 randomly selected farms in Weld County Co, 12.5% of the crop was destroyed.
a) At the alpha =.05 level, does this indicate that this damage should be considered unusual?
-------------------------
t(0.125) = (0.125-0.11)/sqrt[0.11*0.89/37] = 0.2722
---
p-value = P(t > 0.2722 when df = 36) = 0.3935
---
Sinc the p-value is greater than 5%, 12.5% is not unusual at the 5%
level of significance.
b.) How about at the alpha=0.01 level? Sample standard deviation =5%.
Not sure what you mean by that? You can't just throw in a different
standard deviation when p = 11% and n = 37
