Hi,
Let x and (x+2)represent the two consecutive even integers, that is y = (x+2)
Question states***
x(x+2)= 20[ x +(x+2)] - 40
Solving for x
x^2 + 2x = 40x
x^2 -38x = 0
x(x-38) = 0 0,2 and 38,40 are the two sets of consecutive even integers
CHECKING our Answer***putting values back into the original EQ
0 = 0 for x = 0
and for x = 38:
38*40 = 1520 = 20*78 - 40 = 1520
