Question 46938: Isengrim took(22nd Thain of the Shire) had a collection of 48 coins consisting of fatherings, haypennies and shire pieces. The number of haypennies is one less than twice the number of fatherings, and the number of shire pieces is ten greater than the number of haypennies. How many coins of each denomination are there in the collection?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Fatherings = x
Haypennies = 2x-1
Shire pennies = 10+(2x-1)
EQUATION
(x)+(2x-1)+(9+2x)=48
5x+8=48
5x=40
x=8
2(8)-1=15
15+10=25
Hence, there are 25 Shire pennies, 15 haypennies, and 8 fatherings.
