Question 469301: Can two lines exist, at the same time that are not intersecting or parallel? Explain your answer. Found 2 solutions by jim_thompson5910, solver91311:Answer by jim_thompson5910(35256) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! If you're in the 2D plane, then the two lines either intersect or are parallel. There are no other options.
Consider a plane tangent to the surface of the earth containing a line that is oriented exactly north-south. Consider a plane parallel to but not coincident with the first plane containing a line that is oriented exactly east-west. The two lines described are neither parallel nor do they intersect.
Alternatively, consider any four non-coplanar points. Construct a line through either pair. Construct another line through the other pair. The two lines will neither be parallel nor will they intersect.
