Question 468059: The combined area of New york and California is 204,192 square miles. The area of California is 108,530 square miles more than that of New York. Find the land area of each state. Found 2 solutions by Farnsworths, jorel1380:Answer by Farnsworths(2) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! The answer is found by creating a formula. Total Miles(T)= 2x+108530. You then put T is so 204192= 2x+ 108530. To get X alone you minus 108530 from both sides. 204192-108530= 2x. Simplifiy so 95662= 2x then just divide by 2. So the final answer is 47831 is X. New York's area is X so New York's is 47831. And due to the fact that California's is 108530 more you just add that to X to give you 156361.
You can put this solution on YOUR website! N+C=204192
C=N+108530
N+N+108530=204192
2N=95662
N=47831
C=47831+108530=156361
New York is 47,831 square miles in area. California is 156361 sq. mi..
