You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x+x+8=270/5
2x+8=54
2x=54-8
2x=46
x=23 kph
x+8=31 kph

If they are traveling in opposite directions then their total speed is the sum of the two individual speeds. If they traveled a total of 270 klicks in 5 hours, then their total speed was 270 divided by 5 or 54 km/hr. Let represent the rate of the slower cyclist and then must be the faster one.
