Question 465591: How do I answer the word problem.
The perimeter of an isosceles triangle is 36 cm. The total length of the the congruent legs is 12 centimeters more than one-half the length of the base. Find the lengths of the three sides.

Hi,
Note: Perimeter is the length found by adding the lengths of all sides.
Let x represent the length of each congruent side. Note: 2x = base/2 + 12
and therefore the base is 2(2x -12)
Question states*** P = 36cm
x + x + 2(2x-12) = 36
6x = 60
x = 10, length of each congruent side. Base is 16. 2*(30-12)
CHECKING our Answer***
10cm + 10cm + 16cm = 36cm
