Question 463313: Determine the coordinates of the point where the lines pass y= -2x-1 and y=-x+6
Answer by algebrahouse.com(1659) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! "Determine the coordinates of the point where the lines pass y= -2x-1 and y=-x+6"
To do this, solve the two equations simultaneously for x and y
y = -2x - 1
y = -x + 6
-x + 6 = -2x - 1 {substituted -x + 6, in for y, into top equation}
-x = -2x - 7 {subtracted 6 from both sides}
x = -7 {added 2x to both sides}
y = -x + 6 {bottom equation}
y = 7 + 6 {substituted -7, in for x, into bottom equation}
y = 13 {combined like terms}
x = -7 and y = 13
the two lines would intersect at (-7,13)
