Question 462338: 1. Each year, I plant a fruit/vegetable garden in the spring. I grow a variety of things, but my BIG plantings are of tomatoes and peppers. However, getting my seeds to sprout is not as easy as you’d think….

A. This year, I seeded both peppers and tomatoes, using a total of 120 seeds. Write an equation to show this.
Using P for peppers and T for tomoatoes the equation would look like:
P+T=120

B. I sowed nine times as many tomato seeds as pepper seeds. Write an equation to show this.
9T+P=120

C.	How many tomato seeds did I plant?

D.	How many pepper seeds did I plant?

I really do not want the answer I just want to know if I am on the right track as far as my equations go. I tried to solve using the substitution method but I keep coming up with T=0 and P=120 which I know can't be right, right?

You can put this solution on YOUR website! The equation P + T = 120 is correct.
However, the equation 9T + P = 120 is not correct.
The 2nd equation should be
9P + P = 120 (because T=9P)
