Question 461776: Hello,
I'm trying to solve the following word problem:
A plane travels 560 miles in 1.75 hours flying with the wind. The
return trip against the same wind takes two hours. Find the speed of
the plane and the wind.
I tried setting up the problem like this
d=r*t
560=2(r-c) 560=1.75(r+c)

560=2(r-c)/2 560=1.75(r+c)/1.75
280=r-c 320=r+c

320=r+c
280=r-c
-----------
600=2r
r=300
This is where I got stuck. I'm unsure how to solve for c. Where did I go
wrong? Thank you for your help.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
You did not go wrong anywhere... just plug in r in any of the las two equations and solve for c... the answer is going to be the same for both equations which is 20...
see it?
