Question 4616: Graph:
y = 3/2x
Answer by longjonsilver(2297) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! you need to learn what y=1/x looks like. There is a value of x that is not defined, is when the denominator is zero, since anything divided by zero is infinity.
so, your equation: when x=0, the denominator is zero --> this is the asymptote.
What about any values of y not allowed? just re-write the equation, as x=3/2y, so again y=0 is not allowed (ie is the asymptote).
So the graph is basically the same as y=1/x, just got different gradients, but seeing as how you are just sketching it, it doesn't matter.
PS - DO NOT draw the straight line joining the 2 halves of the graph, this DOES NOT exist - it is there only in this software package --> ignore the straight line. THERE ARE 2 curves that are not joined to each other.
