SOLUTION: Andrew factored the expression 28x³-6x²-10x as 2x(14x³-3x²-5x). But when Melissa applied the distributive law and multiplied out 2x(14x³-3x²-5x), she got 28x⁴-6x³-10x²; thus,

Question 460043: Andrew factored the expression 28x³-6x²-10x as 2x(14x³-3x²-5x). But when Melissa applied the distributive law and multiplied out 2x(14x³-3x²-5x), she got 28x⁴-6x³-10x²; thus, Andrew’s solution does not appear to check. Why is that? Please help Andrew to understand this better. Explain your reasoning and correctly factor the original expression, if possible. If the expression is prime, so state.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
When you factor out 2x, divide all the original terms by 2x, not 2.
