You can put this solution on YOUR website!
a plane travels at a speed of 190 mph flying with a tail wind the plane is clocked above at a distance of 400 miles. flying against a head wind it takes an hour more time to complete the return trip. what was the winds velocity?
..
let x=plane speed in still air
let w=wind speed
travel time=distance/speed
time of travel with wind=400/190=2.1 hrs
time of travel against wind=2.1+1=3.1 hrs
speed of plane against wind=400/3.1=128.8 mph
..
190=x+w
128.8=x-w
subtract
2w=61.2
w=30.6 mph
ans:
Wind velocity=30.6 mph
