%285%2F4%29%28x%29+%2B+%281%2F8%29%28x%29=+%283%2F8%29+%2B+x.......common denominator is 8; so, multiply all terms by 8
%285%2F4%29%2A8%28x%29+%2B+%281%2F8%29%2A8%28x%29=+%283%2F8%29%2A8+%2B+8x

5%2A2%28x%29+%2B+x=+3+%2B+8x
10x+%2B+x=+3+%2B+8x
11x+-8x=+3+
3x=+3+
x=+3%2F3+
x=+1

What does x equal?
-------------
I assume you mean
(5/4)x + (1/8)x= 3/8 + x
Multiply by 8
10x + x = 3 + 8x
11x = 8x + 3
3x = 3
x = 1
